Foundations

Elite course conditions are rooted in sound agronomics — precision practices, modern systems, and year-round discipline. But lasting success comes from cultivating a team that shares that commitment. I lead by example and empower a staff that takes pride in their work, understands the 'why' behind each task, and works cohesively toward a common goal: delivering exceptional playing conditions every day.

Turf Management

Championship conditions are achieved through proactive cultural practices, precision mowing, and seasonal adjustments across all turf types. A comprehensive program balances performance, recovery, and aesthetics throughout the course.

  • Aeration, topdressing, and vertical mowing enhance firmness and consistency.

  • Reduced mowing heights improve surface speed and turf health (greens 18%, tees 22%, approaches 25%, fairways 20%).

  • Fairways are rolled and topdressed to elevate ball roll and playability.

  • Green complexes serve as seamless visual and functional extensions of putting surfaces.

  • Roughs are overseeded, decompacted and managed for density, recovery, and turf contrast.

  • Native grasses are strategically established and maintained to define sightlines, reduce inputs, and frame playing corridors.

  • In-house sod nursery enables timely repairs, collar restoration, and green expansions.

Precision Turf Management

Championship conditions are driven by precision—not just practice. At North Hempstead, we leverage data, sensors, and strategic inputs to deliver elite surface performance with consistency.

  • GDD-based growth regulator programs tailored to turf species and seasonal dynamics.

  • Soil moisture monitoring using TDR probes and in-ground sensors for real-time decision making.

  • Custom-developed PDF moisture maps used for hand-watering guidance, updated daily based on above-ground and in-ground soil sensors, weather conditions, and surface firmness.

  • Fertigation through the irrigation system to maximize efficiency and accuracy of nutrient delivery

  • Compartmentalized irrigation zones for micromanaged water application.

  • Targeted mowing and rolling patterns for greens and fairways to enhance smoothness and performance.

  • Surface firmness and stimp readings monitored daily to maintain ideal playing conditions and adjust moisture strategies.

  • Clipping yield analysis and soil testing to guide nutrient programs and avoid excesses.

  • GPS-enabled cart technology is used to track traffic patterns, implement restrictions, and adjust routing to reduce wear on high-impact turf areas.

Technology Integration

Technology is fully leveraged to streamline operations, enhance communication, and increase efficiency across all areas of golf course management.

  • Coverage System used for precise spray logging, product tracking, and inventory management

  • Task Tracker platform employed for daily job assignments and labor tracking

  • Smart TVs are utilized for training videos, live demonstrations, and real-time job board communication.

  • PB Coachbooks created for in-field reference and skill development.

  • Wireless Pump Log used to monitor pump station function and efficiency.

  • NSN Connect enables remote access to the irrigation system for adjustments and monitoring.

  • Lynx Maps and Wireless Handheld tools used for in-field irrigation control, diagnostics, and zone changes.

  • Foxit and Adobe Photoshop used for drone imagery analysis and developing visual recommendations for the Green Chairman and Committee.

  • Communication with membership delivered via ForeTee push notifications and monthly email updates, as approved by the Green Chairman and Greens Committee.

Team Development & Culture

A successful golf course operation is built on people—mentored, motivated, and empowered to grow.

  • Assistant & Intern Advancement
Over a dozen assistants and interns have progressed under my leadership into superintendent roles, landscape managers, and industry professionals.

  • Assistant-in-Training Development Pathway
AITs are given structured opportunities to build agronomic skills, leadership experience, and confidence—preparing them for the next step in their careers.

  • Staff Empowerment & Accountability
Employees are encouraged to take ownership of their roles, contribute ideas, and take pride in the product—fueling engagement and consistent results.

  • Unified Team Culture
